It takes me less than five seconds to decide I like Kate, particularly her blunt manner of speaking and the way she teases Derek. If there's anyone that needs a good teasing and reason to smile, it's Derek, and she seems really good for making it happen.

As I've quickly come to discover, Derek's been pretty good at picking friends here.

I'm still grinning at Kate, eager to follow her logic as asked, when Derek turns a little toward me. Swallowing a little, I seize the opportunity to really look at his eyes and hope he doesn't interpret the kick in my heart rate for what it really is. "Yeah.
